Remember These?

When I was in primary school (or was it early secondary school?), these friendship bracelets were all the rage for a while. I built my first (small) DMC stash making these. Some time after, hair-wraps became the in-thing, and I used my floss stash for those as well. So DMC and me, we go way back!

I made this one today for Finn, as a replacement for a peyote stitched wristband I made for him a while ago. The beaded wristband has broken twice, and I figure this will be more durable for a small boy. I only realised how ‘Halloween’-y the colours were when I started tying the knots. Looks pretty cool, don’t you think?

Looks fabulous! Congratulations – did you do a matching one for Mum?

I remember those! I spent ages making them in 7th and 8th grade. Before that we made friendship pins – bright colored beads on safety pins, that we attached to the laces of our sneakers.

I remember both friendship bracelets and friendship pins. Some of the more creative girls in my group went so far as to make up pins that when laid next to each other in groups made pictures, and then dangled all of those from yet another pin.

Those are still very popular around here. I think it’s the surfer thing. Son has one that he wears all the time and he’s almost 22! I have a book that has a whole lot of different patterns ๐Ÿ˜€

Oh my gosh, that’s so funny. I just saw something the other day that reminded me of these. I still have a couple of “in progress” ones lying around somewhere, I think. I like the colors that you used!

    Oh that is too funny!
I was thinking about those the other day, sort of a missing my childhood thing, and wondering if my kids are old enough now to take up the craft.
And very nice colors too! ๐Ÿ™‚
